Jim Pewter 1973

For St Paul to AFKN to Los Angeles, Jim made it happen.  When he got back from Korea and AFKN he started with AFRTS.  Phil would DX AFN Munich.  The weekend starts soon.  Fire up the grill and hear great oldies from Jim Pewter.  It's crazy clothes day!

Don Tracy 1980

Imagine my surprise when I checked the website voicemail and there was a message from Don Tracy, offering whatever help he could.  Don sounds great.  Called him back and we introduced each other.  He's getting ready to be heard from again.  Don started with AFRTS in 1973 and it was largely a weekend gig that got more interesting as time went by. It took a while for the fan mail to start and he had received a letter from Germany, asking if he'd like to come over as a morale builder. He went to in Nuremberg, to support AFN.  A big memory of that was when the Stars and Stripes reporter was going to make him look bad by asking about the government paid boondoggle.  It didn't work.  Don had taken vacation and paid for the trip out of pocket.

We'll be hearing more from Don Tracy.

Joe Ferguson 1983

Joe Ferguson back with more memories of 1983.  In 1983 the network tried being less LA-centric and got jocks all over the country to do shows for the troops.  Joe was in Portland OR and brings it home...  A few years ago Joe sent his set of disks for us to hear again.  Many thanks!

Pop Chronicles - 1971

The Pop Chronicles was originally done for KRLA in 1969, inspired by the Monterey Pop Festival by John Gilliand.  The entire series is online at the University of Texas. Click here to hear it.

The series was syndicated and AFRTS picked it up.

Johnnie Darin 1973

Johnnie bounced around Los Angeles for many years and was with the network for many years, let's look at the greatest hits of the year, 1973.

Pete Pittman - Pat Boone on AFN

Ticket scan: Pete Pittman

Because it was Europe, AFN had a lot of chances to speak with the stars. Movie stars making movies, bands doing shows. In 1981 Pat Boone chatted with Pete Pittman.

World Of Folk Music 1969

The World of Folk Music was an interesting show. First Oscar Brand did a conventional Folkie show, then the ones I've heard were great profiles of country music.  A couple of weeks ago someone asked for one.  A few days ago, Dan sent one.  I can take a hint.  Take a listen to  Hugh Jeffrey tell the story of Merle Haggard.
